Mythology Distillery will release its first gin, Needle Pig Gin, on June 14. Needle Pig Gin is a modern dry gin distilled with six natural botanicals, including Italian juniper, coriander seed, sage, orris root, grapefruit peel, and star anise. Sage spice and sweet pine on the nose are complimented by resinous citrus from the juniper and ripe grapefruit. Sweet jam is tasted on the palate, followed by grapefruit citrus, licorice and pine.
As the spirit transforms, notes of anise spice appear on the mid palate with subtle floral notes with lasting citrus and sage on the finish. The Mythology team spent more than three years researching and developing this gin before releasing it.
“Gin is one of the best spirits, and I love the creativity of choosing the botanical profile.,” said Scott Coburn, head distiller at Mythology Distillery. “My goal was to create a balanced, juniper-forward spirit for a gin that pairs great in cocktails.”
The Mythology team experimented with more than 20 botanicals before deciding on the final blend. They also collaborated on the recipe and subsequent tastings with friends from the esteemed International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in the United Kingdom, resulting in a complex, 90-proof dry gin.
Needle Pig Gin joins Hell Bear Whiskey, Chatter Wolf Vodka and Feather Jester Rum as a core spirit produced by the distillery. Needle Pig Gin 750-ml bottles will be available starting June 14 for $32 each. Customers can purchase and enjoy the specialty release at the Highlands-based distillery and cocktail bar (3622 Tejon St, Denver, CO 80211) as well as 75 Denver liquor stores, restaurants and bars.
The release of Needle Pig Gin will take place on June 14 starting at 4pm, featuring live music and the release of new gin cocktail menu. The gin-focused cocktail menu will feature a “pick your own gin and tonic” menu where guests can select which type of tonic and botanicals they’d like to be added to their gin for a floral, citrus or savory cocktail. The bar will also be adding a gin cocktail section to their menu for the release.
