Pablo’s Coffee took home four medals at the largest global roasters competition, Golden Bean North America, in Portland, Oregon from Sept. 19-22. This is the first year that Pablo’s Coffee has entered the competition, which celebrated its fourth anniversary last month.
“The same weekend that other Colorado small businesses were being put on the map at Great American Beer Festival, we were establishing ourselves as a world-class roaster,” said Pablo’s Coffee owner Craig Conner. “These wins validate our roasting style and philosophy, which is to develop sweet, full body and balance throughout the roasting process.”
Pablo’s Coffee took home the following medals:
Costa Rica Dota Co-Op Yellow Honey Process won silver medal in single origin espresso category
Costa Rica Dota Co-Op Yellow and Red Honey Process Blend won silver medal in the drip coffee category
Little Jem Espresso won bronze medal in espresso category
Espresso Blend won bronze medal in espresso category
“I’m particularly proud of the honey processed coffees’ medals, as they were very challenging to develop a roast profile. The end result mitigated some the inherent faults in the green coffee while showing off the positive attributes,” said Pablo’s Coffee head roaster Brian Gerhard. “It took quite a bit of R&D to develop the roast curves and recipes.”
Pablo’s Espresso Blend is still available to purchase online and in stores. View the full list of Golden Bean North America winners here. The competition received more than 900 coffee submissions from more than 500 roasters.
