Banded Oak Brewing received a gold medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 102 beer-style categories were announced September 22 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
“Drunkard’s Cloak, which has only been around for a few months now, is one of our favorite beers, so we’re thrilled it won us our first GABF medal,” said Will Curtin, owner of Banded Oak. “It feels incredible to have such a huge win in the city we call home.”
Banded Oak was recognized in the Old Ale or Strong Ale beer-style category for its Drunkard’s Cloak. Drunkard’s Cloak is barrel-aged version on the brewery’s seasonal classic, the Ye Olde Ale. Drunkard’s Cloak features Madagascar vanilla beans, big malt and oak, which meld together with the pinot barrel to create an impressionable beer. The beer is currently available for purchase in bottles at the Denver brewery.
